Types of Appliances

Orthodontic appliances may be removable or they may be brackets bonded to the teeth. By placing a constant, gentle force in a carefully controlled direction, orthodontic appliances slowly move teeth to a corrected position. This is a great time to wear braces! Gone are the days when a metal band was placed around each tooth. You can choose brackets that are ceramic or metal. You can choose the color of the ties that hold the wire in the brackets. Wires are also less noticeable than they used to be and the latest materials move teeth faster with less discomfort to patients. Some patients can even choose to straighten their teeth without braces.

Metal Braces

metal-bracesMetal braces are the most common type. They are made of high-grade stainless steel. Today's metal braces are smaller, more comfortable, and more attractive.

Ceramic Braces

Invisalign®

invisalignThe Invisalign System is a series of clear overlay templates—called aligners—that have been generated by computer simulation to gradually move the teeth. This system is available to patients with only certain orthodontic problems. Ask us if you are a candidate for the Invisalign system.
